An invisible hearing aid – is it really possible?

It’s remarkable how a change in the seasons can bring a change in feeling, in outlook; the glimpses of Spring we have had recently bring a sense of hope and optimism. With the thought of ‘going out’ tantalisingly close, this month the focus is on a feature I am asked about a lot: invisibility.
As an audiologist, I know that hearing aids are incredible these days. Being jam-packed full of tiny electronics, microphones and power systems it’s a wonder that they are still pretty discreet. However, for some people, discreet is not enough and I completely understand.
What’s the solution?
If you are someone who rates invisibility highly then this could well be the product for you: Lyric. Dubbed by many as the ‘contact lens for the ear’ it is the only truly 100% invisible hearing aid on the market. In fact, it works in a completely different way than other hearing aids, here’s how:
- 100% invisible: Lyric sits deep in the ear canal and can only be fitted by an audiologist who has had Lyric training.
- 24/7 hearing: it can be worn 24 hours a day every day until the battery runs out (usually 2-3 months) and then you are fitted with a new one.
- Natural sound: Lyric uses the natural anatomy of your ear to localize sound and delivers a full, natural listening experience.
Put simply, the Lyric is small, simple and incredibly effective, take a look at this video to learn more:

Who does Lyric benefit?
Lyric isn’t just for people who rate invisibility highly when thinking about a hearing solution. For example:
- Are you someone who wants to be able to hear overnight? You might be a carer or have a young child,
- Perhaps you are a healthcare professional who uses a stethoscope.
- Are you a musician who wears headphones and finds traditional aids distort natural sound too much?
- Maybe you are leading an active lifestyle and find your hearing aid gets in the way.
What about my hearing loss and how does it feel?
Lyric is designed for those with mild to moderately severe hearing loss. It is made from a soft material that is compatible with our skin and with the challenges of sitting deep in the ear canal. Since all ears are not the same, Lyric comes in different sizes to ensure a comfortable fit. Just like a contact lens, once it’s in you will forget it’s even there.
There are so many people who can benefit from Lyric, not just those who want an invisible option. Here at Peter Byrom Audiology, I have had full Lyric training and offer all of my patients free trials.
If the arrival of Spring has got you thinking you’re ready for a change, why not give Lyric a try?
As always, you can reach me on the clinic number 0114 233 1800, via the website form or any of my social media platforms.
In the meantime, I hope this Spring weather lasts and that we will soon be out and about enjoying it even more.
See you soon,
Peter
