Hearing aids are prescribed depending on your lifestyle or level of hearing loss – so a listening device that your friend or relative has may not suit you. This also means that each device needs to be correctly adjusted and programmed for you – not for someone else. It’s the same as a prescription for glasses, for instance.

Hearing Aid Fine Tuning

As trained audiologists, we take the fitting and adjustment of your listening device very seriously – for us at Peter Byrom Audiology, it’s about getting you back to enjoying life again!

For clients who choose us to provide their hearing aids, we carry out a follow-up check to make sure the device is working as it should – and is adjusted to your needs. Research consistently shows that the results in terms of speech understanding are far superior to using a manufacturer’s suggested hearing aid settings.

We are also happy to carry out servicing and fine-tuning for those who are new to Peter Byrom Audiology – it’s always good to see new faces!

As part of our verification process, we carry out a combination of physical device checks and a Real Ear Measure.

• We measure the hearing aid to ensure that the output meets your prescription target.
• Real Ear Measure involves placing a thin silicone tube microphone into the ear canal and measuring the hearing aid output.
• We then adjust the hearing aid for that specific ear and hearing loss.

Admittedly, it is a fiddly and time-consuming technique which is why it is rarely performed by high street alternatives! So, please allow 1 hour for yearly review appointments and 30 minutes for servicing appointments, if you need them
