Lyric – the contact lens for your ear

Hello and welcome back to Peter Byrom Audiology Blog. Last month I discussed some of the reasons why people stop wearing their hearing aids. One of the reasons is to do with looks and perception; how you look in your hearing aids and how you think others may perceive you is a big deal. You don’t need to be the boss of a big company to want to keep your hearing devices to yourself. A lot of you will already be aware of in-the-ear hearing aids, but what about something completely invisible?

This is where Lyric comes in.

What is it?

Lyric is the only 100% invisible hearing aid. The hearing aids that we are used to today are filled with electronics, Bluetooth etc for optimal performance. Lyric takes things back to a more natural sound. Instead of all the electronics and programmes, Lyric sits deep in the ear canal and utilises the natural anatomy of your ear to localise sound. As you can imagine, it looks pretty different to a ‘normal’ hearing aid:

What else do I need to know?

• Lyric is a ‘long wear’ device. It can be worn 24 hours a day every day until the battery runs out (usually 2-3 months) and then you are fitted with a new one.
• Due to how deeply it sits in the ear canal, it can only be fitted by an audiologist who has had specific Lyric training. Peter Byrom Audiology is fully certified in fitting Lyric and understands which patients will benefit most.

Who does Lyric benefit?

Lyric isn’t just for people who rate invisibility highly when thinking about a hearing solution. For example:
