Peter Byrom Audiology is a registered hearing aid dispenser and we know a hearing aid can be a big investment. When you come in to see us about your hearing, there really is no reason to worry – you’re in very safe, experienced hands.

Either Nicole or Peter will conduct a full case history including:
- - your medical history
- - any hearing concerns, pain or symptoms you may have
- - or other factors that could affect your hearing
- We will carry out a series of hearing tests to establish the health of your ears. Read more about what you can expect from a hearing test here.

If you need a hearing aid, we will discuss your requirements, lifestyle and options.
- - If you have hearing loss in both ears, as many people do, you will need two hearing aids - one will almost always be inadequate.
- - Everyone is different, so our Audiologists will help select the right hearing aid for you and adjust the fitting and programme it to suit your needs.

We fit your hearing aid to international standards with all verification checks, including Real Ear Measure (link to fine-tuning sub-section)
- - To adjust and fit your aid correctly, we use the latest technology and broadcast quality speakers.

Following your fitting, Nicole or Peter will explain what your hearing aid settings do for different environments, and you will be able to adjust your own hearing as you wish.
You can set them to improve hearing when in quiet or diverse environments, such as in a quiet or crowded room, at the cinema or theatre, or in one-to-one conversations. Our hearing aids can even be controlled with an app on your mobile phone, if you would like to.
Choosing your device
Hearing aids range from £4,300 to £4,800, so it’s important that between you and us, we get this right for you!
- There is an extensive range of hearing aids and listening devices available which can be confusing. We will help you work out the best options for your hearing level and lifestyle.
- Importantly, we offer a Hearing Aid Trial before purchase, so you can be sure you’ve got the right device.

- All our listening aids come with a 5-year guarantee.
- If a device needs to go for repair, we can provide you with a spare.
- The upfront cost of your hearing aid includes 5 years of check-up appointments.
- You can trial the hearing aids before purchase.
Living with better hearing
Digital hearing aids are amazing these days with a range of settings to make your life and hearing easier and better but be prepared that it all might take a while to get used to!
You may begin to register sounds that it may not have heard for a while, which can feel overwhelming and tiring. Over time, your brain will learn to recognise the new sounds which will become familiar and more acceptable, so don’t give up!

Follow-up checks
Once you have had some experience with your new hearing aids, we will want to check they’re doing the right job for you. We will arrange a check-up with you, to fine-tune and re-assess the aids to make sure you have the best quality sound possible.
